Kyoob-id also launches its new corporate identity, corporate tagline, and an environmental initiative that includes 3R practices for its operations, marketing, and procurement among others.
1. Singapore's commercial interior design company Kyoob-id has just renewed its Green Mark certified rating by the Building Construction Authority (BCA) for its office interior. The BCA Green Mark scheme was launched in 2005 as part of the Singapore's government initiative to promote sustainability in the built environment and represents the drive towards producing more environment-friendly buildings here.
2. For this renewal of Green Mark certification, Kyoob-id has implemented several improvements to making the office much more sustainable. The environmental features augmented during the office refurbishment include Singapore Green Label certified vinyl flooring and Formica and TAK laminates used for system and loose furniture. The Singapore Green Labelling Scheme is an environmental standard and certification mark for products and is administered by the Singapore Environment Council or SEC.
3. In addition, most of the furniture is reused and recycled whereas office equipment and electrical appliances have energy star ratings, a programme by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy that rates energy-efficient products and practices.
4. Kyoob-id also launches a green initiative that encompasses its business approach including the launch of a new corporate identity, corporate tagline, and new green measures in marketing, operations, and procurement.
5. The new tagline "it all begins with a green dot…" will be featured in our corporate collaterals and stationery. The tagline represents an idea, dream, or aspiration that is put into the drawing board and later materialised into meaningful eco-friendly spaces. The five icons depict how design is being evolved; it starts from a dot – an idea or inspiration – and is further refined into a cube, a design outcome by Kyoob-id. In line with this vision, Kyoob-id's design interiors proposed and built for clients would consist of sustainable features and elements.
6. In the office, Kyoob-id employees are encouraged to practice the 3Rs – reduce, reuse, and recycle. Recycling bins are placed in strategic areas for staffs' recycling and bicycle lots are provided as an encouragement to staff to cycle to work. Employees also carry their own porcelain mugs rather than use disposable cups and containers for drinks and meals.
7. Kyoob-id also advocates the use of recycled paper with these new measures: Corporate collaterals like brochures and direct mailers, and corporate identity materials such as letterheads and envelopes would be printed on recycled paper. Design visuals for clients' presentation would be saved into thumb drives, made of recycled cardboard, for clients to view digitally rather than being mounted on big paper boards. Moreover, corporate gifts are biodegradable or designed with environmentally friendly materials. Employees are also encouraged to print on recycled paper.
8. On top of these, employees practise power saving measures that include turning off the power points to the office equipment after a work day, offing the lights and air-con during lunch and meetings, and pre-setting the computer and copier printer to power saving modes when not in use. Sensor features are also in place: a photo sensor is positioned at the office façade area to detect movement before automatically adjusting the light intensity. And when there're fewer than two people in the same room, only one fan coil unit (FCU) would be turned on. In addition to energy saving light bulbs, employees are given a task lamp to supplement their lighting needs.
9. Michelle Goh, director of Kyoob-id said, "Climate change is a real issue affecting the entire world. We believe that every little sustainable effort counts to protect and preserve the environment we live in. It's the reason we started these environmental measures from within."
