Message from Design Director: A season of giving
Greetings from the Kyoob-ID team!
It's been a great year. We've worked with many wonderful people and made some great friends along the way. We're also heartened to know that there's been amazing trust from our clients as their workplace partners; one such example is Max Photo. In their recent retail launch of Click!, a new interior concept for their camera shops, we've turned their initial idea of a simple shop front into a refreshing new identity that sets it apart from others.
Inspired from how a photography hobbyist would relate and experience with the camera and its accessories, the new interior identity consists of photographic elements weaved within such as lens aperture and camera frames and zooms among others. The refreshing design is aimed to appeal to a wider group of customers including younger and more IT-and-social-media savvy photographers. We're pleased to know that the design has been well-received. Read more about the article from Singapore Business Review here.
It's the time of the year for a little festive merriment as well. Just last month, we joined our Kyoob Architects colleagues for a Christmas dinner at 10 at Claymore at Pan Pacific Hotel, Orchard. We had a blast satiating the buffet-lover in us. In November, as scheduled, the team became models for a day at White Room Studio at River Valley Road. It was a day of laughter and catching up with one another not to mention pampering with all that make-up and hair styling! We're looking forward to more of such activities this year.
As we begin a new year, we've a pipeline of programmes and initiatives in store to share with you. We'd like to take this opportunity to wish everybody a Happy New Year. Improving lives at the workplace is Kyoob-ID's mission, and we'll carry on doing it with passion. We love to hear from you. Send us a note: marketing@kyoob.com.sg.

Project Update: Haymarket
Haymarket is a global media company that provides a host of media solutions ranging from consumer and business media, as well as exhibitions and events for diverse markets ranging from technology to education, from sports to environment.
The media powerhouse's new Singapore office – Haymarket Media Asia Pte Ltd – located in a newly constructed building: Infinite Studios at Mediapolis; the media office is constructed under five weeks.
Cool simplicity decorated this global set-up, which comprises 3480 square feet. Sleek lines compound with understated styling to portray a quiet, confident minimalism. A neutral palette of cool graphite and clean white soaked the media office, with sporadic bursts of milk-brown and mahogany hues to break the monotony.
On the flooring – in keeping with the understated vibes – a mixture of materials in muted tones is used: carpets in silvery-grey and rust-brown as well as epoxy finish that is coated the colour of ashen. Contemporary furniture pieces from chic reception loungers to sleek office chairs provide sophisticated styling to the interior.
The exposed ceiling revealing the complex pipe network juxtaposes an industrial vibe with the clean and classy ambience; giving the interior an interesting element of texture and surprise.
A Chat with Kyoob-ID's Quantity Surveyor, Wendy Ng
Mother-of-two Wendy Ng likes to keep things simple. Our quantity surveyor is also a devoted mother, spending most of her free time taking care of her two young children, Anthea, aged seven and Reyes, aged two. Indeed, Ng's level-headedness and truck-loads of patience have made her the perfect candidate for this role, which often requires balancing both the needs of suppliers and customers. We've a quick chat with the friendly lady.1. Tell us a little about your past work experience.
I've been a quantity surveyor since my first job after graduation from the University. During this time, I've worked as a quantity surveyor consultant with both design companies as well as contracting firms.2. Tell us more about your role in Kyoob-ID.
I'd meet new suppliers to understand more about their products and pricing terms. Then I'd arrange for product presentation and training for my colleagues. Preparing quotations and tender documents for clients according to our in-house design and project direction is also part of my scope.3. What interests you in this job scope?
I get to look at nice interior designs, finishes, and furniture.4. What are the challenges you face in your role and how do you overcome them?
Meeting the deadlines and also having to balance between incorporating all the design elements that the designer wishes to propose against the given budget by the client. To overcome these challenges, it helps to stay in close communication with fellow colleagues.5. What are the pre-requisites for this role and how can one excel in it?
Lots of patience and a good memory would help.6. How do you spend your free time?
Most of my free time is spent on the children. Otherwise I'd go for a jog, learn to bake, and surf the net.Picture perfect
Fancy being a model for a day?
For half a day, we did just that. On 2 November, we drove to White Room Studio at River Valley Road for a glamour shoot, yes you heard it right. The theme was al naturel as we went back to basics and turned up in rugged jeans and pastel tops for the event. Despite not wearing glitter and shine, we felt like a glamour model no less.
We were dusted with powder and rouge (for the girls) by the makeup artist, and were made to feel like a celebrity with all that pampering. Then, we were set in front of the very affable and professional photographer who turned us into catalogue models. The rest of us while waiting for our turn, nibbled on light snacks and drinks and caught up with each other amid the background music. We'd a wonderful time, posing for the camera and laughing with each other. It was simply hilarious and fun. We also took the opportunity to celebrate one of our colleagues' birthday.
The heady afternoon of glamour soon passed by; but the picture stills and wonderful memories would certainly stay with us for a long time.
